Samsung Medison Acquires French Startup Sonio... "Kickstarting AI Solution Portfolio Expansion"

Development of Medical IT Solutions and AI Diagnostic Assistance Functions

Samsung Medison is expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) solution portfolio to accelerate innovation in the ultrasound imaging diagnostic field and reduce gaps between global medical sites.

Samsung Medison announced on the 2nd that it completed the 100% acquisition of the French startup 'Sonio,' which developed ultrasound diagnostic reporting and AI diagnostic assistance functions, on the 30th of last month.


Samsung Medison is focusing on simplifying global medical workflows and innovating accessibility and accuracy of medical services by utilizing AI and information technology (IT). This acquisition stems from a strategic decision to further strengthen this business direction. The company expects that synergy between Sonio's AI solutions and Samsung's existing technologies will enhance efficiency in medical sites and contribute to closing the global medical gap.

Sonio developed cloud-based medical IT solutions and AI diagnostic assistance functions. In particular, Sonio's AI solution 'Detect,' which has proven its effectiveness through FDA 510(k) approval, evaluates ultrasound image quality in real time and provides feedback. It helps improve the accuracy of ultrasound diagnosis and reduce skill disparities among medical professionals by automatically extracting and providing optimal ultrasound images.


Yu Gyu-tae, CEO of Samsung Medison, said, "Sonio's AI solution, which helps provide high-quality medical services anywhere in the world, is expected to greatly assist in reducing medical disparities in global diagnostic sites where experienced imaging professionals are lacking. We will lead innovation in medical device accessibility and accuracy by combining Samsung's advanced technology with Sonio's AI solutions."


C?cile Brosset, CEO of Sonio, said, "Through synergy with Samsung Medison, we plan to continuously develop reporting solutions and diagnostic assistance functions for women's health to more rapidly reduce global medical disparities. We are already seeing tangible results, such as successfully signing AI solution supply contracts with the largest obstetrics and gynecology chain in the United States."


Tracy Berry, Head of Samsung Electronics' U.S. Medical Device Women's Health Business, said, "We are pleased to be able to include Sonio's AI technology and reporting software in the total IT solution system for obstetrics and gynecology, which includes Samsung's remote medical solution SonoSync and the ultrasound management tool S-Hub."
