On the 29th (local time), the British Daily Mail reported that a strip show competition was held at a temporary nightclub in Astrakhan, a city in southwestern Russia. Participants in the contest had to take off their clothes one by one in order, and the last person remaining on stage would win an Apple iPhone smartphone. The venue for the competition was reportedly a bunker used as a shelter in emergencies.
The released video showed two naked women and two naked men standing side by side on stage, dancing after removing all their clothes. Unlike the other nervous participants, a participant in their 20s actively took off their clothes and appeared to be happy.
The contest was halted when police, responding to a report, raided the scene. Organizers and participants were urgently arrested by the police. The participant who was enthusiastic about 'stripping' apologized to the police, saying, "What I did was immoral and completely abnormal," and "I am very ashamed of having done such a thing." The police announced that they would detain the four people on stage and the club officials for 15 days and warned that prison sentences would be imposed.
Igor Babushkin, the governor, pointed out, "The place where the contest was held is a shelter and refuge where citizens should evacuate in case of emergency," and said, "While our people are risking their lives in the war, an immoral act insulting human dignity has occurred." He continued, "The participants sold themselves to buy American phones," criticizing the event, and emphasized, "I believe the identities of all those involved in this incident should be disclosed."
Russian authorities announced that they would strengthen crackdowns on clubs and other venues to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
