Scalpers Appear Minutes After Pre-Sale Ends
Warning of Ticket Scams Sold Online
The legendary British band Oasis is reuniting for a live tour after 15 years, and tickets for this concert are being resold on the black market for as much as 10 million won per ticket.
On the 30th (local time), the British BBC reported that the black market price for Oasis live tour tickets exceeded ?6,000 (about 10.55 million won) just minutes after the presale began. Previously, Oasis's comeback concert tickets were available for presale for about three hours on the evening of the 30th. The official price of the concert tickets ranged from ?73 to ?506 (approximately 130,000 to 890,000 won) per ticket.
However, shortly after the presale started, tickets appeared on online resale platforms 'StubHub' and 'Via GoGo' at prices ranging from ?916 to ?6,000. This is more than 40 times the highest official sale price.
As scalping surged, Oasis issued a statement warning against reselling tickets at high prices, emphasizing that "concert tickets can only be resold at face value through 'Ticketmaster' and 'Twickets,' and tickets traded through unauthorized resale platforms may be canceled." They also added a warning that some tickets being resold online at high prices could be fraudulent.
Not only did the scalping prices soar, but hotel bookings in nearby areas scheduled for the tour surged, causing accommodation prices to skyrocket. Some hotels even canceled earlier reservations and resold rooms at three times the original price. Despite consumer complaints, experts expect Oasis's concert to have an unprecedented positive impact on the local economy. The British daily The Guardian, citing an analysis from Birmingham City University, reported that the revenue from Oasis's announced tour next year could reach ?400 million (about 707.9 billion won).
Formed in 1991, Oasis gained worldwide popularity with numerous hit songs such as "Don't Look Back in Anger." However, due to conflicts between the band's core members, brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, the band disbanded in 2009. On the 27th, after 15 years of disbandment, they announced their reunion on their X (formerly Twitter) account along with the tour schedule starting July 4 next year in Wales. They plan to hold a total of 17 performances mainly in the UK and Ireland from July 4 to August 17 next year.
