Work + Vacation, the New Trend... Remote Work at Vacation Spots (Workation)
Busan Hub Center, Networking, Themed Tours, and Cultural Experiences from September 1 to 29
Over 80 Digital Nomads from Around the World Showcasing Rest and Creative Work Skills
Busan Metropolitan City will host the '2024 Global Busan Workation with Hoppin' event from September 1 to 29, focusing on Busan's workation hubs, satellite centers, and major tourist attractions.
This event is jointly organized by the city, the Busan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, and Hoppin, a world-renowned remote work (global workation) startup.
During the event, more than 80 overseas digital nomads, who are at the forefront of the globally trending fusion of work and leisure known as 'workation,' will visit Busan?a city boasting breathtaking natural scenery and metropolitan infrastructure?to relax and unleash their creative work potential.
'Digital nomad' is a neologism combining 'digital' and 'nomad,' referring to people who, with internet access and digital devices (such as laptops and smartphones), work remotely without being tied to a specific location and enjoy a free lifestyle.
Through this event, the city aims to ▲ establish a foundation for attracting global workation digital nomads and ▲ present a vision and strategy for invigorating international workation tourism, positioning Busan as a leading global workation destination.
In particular, the event will utilize the distinctive workspaces of Busan's workation hub and satellite centers, while also fostering free networking and exchanges between global digital nomads, local youth, and entrepreneurs. This will provide a platform for global talents to share insights and experiences on the latest digital nomad trends.
Additionally, by offering unique themed tourism and cultural experience programs that leverage Busan's beautiful natural landscapes and tourist resources, the event aims to showcase Busan's pioneering workation tourism appeal, where participants can perfectly balance work and leisure.
The 'Busan-style Workation Project' was selected as an investment project for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Regional Extinction Response Fund in 2022. It supports remote work by establishing and operating hub and satellite centers in three population-declining districts (Dong-gu, Seo-gu, and Yeongdo-gu) and two areas of interest (Jung-gu and Geumjeong-gu).
By building partner centers throughout the city, the project not only provides workspaces but also offers accommodation and tourism content, aiming to boost the local economy by increasing Busan's resident population and, in the long term, attract businesses from outside the region.
Park Geunrok, Director of Tourism and MICE at Busan Metropolitan City, stated, "This event will serve as a cornerstone for global digital nomads and entrepreneurs with creativity and autonomy to gather, discuss future strategies for the advancement of global workation, and present a new vision for collaboration that transcends physical time and space. We hope this will be an opportunity for Busan to emerge as a world-class global tourism hub and a leading city for balanced work, life, and rest through workation."
