It has been revealed that the nieces and nephews who made a 'surprise appearance' at the U.S. Democratic National Convention to support Vice President Kamala Harris are of Korean descent.

Earlier, on the 21st (local time), the Democratic National Convention was held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. At this event, Vice President Harris's niece and nephew, siblings Jasper and Arden Emhoff, appeared, and their appearance featured black hair and distinct Asian characteristics.

They are known to be the children of Andrew Emhoff, the brother of Vice President Harris's husband Doug Emhoff, and his Korean-American wife, Dr. Judy Lee. Vice President Harris is their great-aunt. In other words, Vice President Harris has Korean-American nieces and nephews.

At the convention, Jasper said, "No one is busier than my great-aunt, but she always makes time for family by cooking, sharing meals, and exchanging stories and jokes." Arden emphasized her human side, saying, "My great-aunt respects children just as she does everyone else. She made me feel valued and loved."

Vice President Harris is reportedly closely connected with Korean-American figures. For instance, Dr. Judy Lee attended a luncheon during President Yoon Suk-yeol's state visit to the U.S. in April last year. During the luncheon, Vice President Harris mentioned, "About 2 million Korean Americans live in the United States," referring to various Korean-American individuals including Dr. Judy Lee.

She also showed deep interest by mentioning Korean companies' U.S. FDI (foreign direct investment), the influence of Korean culture such as the group BTS and Squid Game. She said, "K-pop fans, including BTS, have topped the U.S. Billboard charts. I was also delighted to invite BTS to my office and meet them," adding, "My husband and I binge-watched Squid Game at home over several weeks."
