Seoul Metro Displays Real-Time Dokdo Videos at Jamsil, Anguk, and Gwanghwamun Stations Anguk Station

Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced that starting August 30, videos of Dokdo will be displayed on wall-mounted TV screens at three stations?Gwanghwamun Station, Jamsil Line 2 Station, and Anguk Station?where Dokdo sculptures had been damaged or posed safety concerns for passengers.

Regarding the remodeling of aging Dokdo sculptures installed at six stations, the company decided to install wall-mounted TVs at the three stations where the sculptures were completely removed, considering passenger safety.

From now on, citizens using these stations will be able to enjoy the four seasons of Dokdo in real time through an 85-inch (2044mm x 236mm x 1236mm) TV screen broadcasting from the ‘Dokdo Comprehensive Information System (dokdo.re.kr)’.

At the three stations where the Dokdo images were damaged due to discoloration and contamination after 15 years of installation (City Hall Line 2 Station, Gimpo Airport Station, and Itaewon Station), the original Dokdo images will be restored by applying bright colors to the existing aging Dokdo models, and they will be reintroduced around October 20.

Seoul Metro has faced difficulties managing the Dokdo sculptures installed at six stations due to their impact on passenger walking routes and congestion, as well as damage and fading.

Baek Ho, President of Seoul Metro, said, “By broadcasting vivid and immersive four-season Dokdo videos in real time on large monitors in the Seoul subway, which serves 7 million passengers daily, we will strive to continuously engrave the significance of Dokdo in the minds of citizens.”
