First Attempt Among 5 District Offices in Gwangju
Vehicle Inspections Also Starting from September
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) will be the first in Gwangju to deliver vehicle inspection and fine payment notifications via mobile text messages starting in September.
Seo-gu announced that it will notify vehicle owners via their registered mobile phone numbers about advance and overdue vehicle inspections, as well as fines for delayed inspections, which were previously sent by registered mail. This is the first among the five autonomous districts.
Paper mail is often returned due to recipient absence or unknown address during delivery, causing missed opportunities for early fine payment discounts and continuous complaints due to overdue inspection periods.
The mobile electronic notification service allows recipients to easily view notices through an identity verification process without separate application or app installation, which is expected to reduce missed inspections and fine penalties caused by undelivered mail.
This service is operated for private vehicles only, excluding corporate and commercial vehicles, and will be implemented alongside the existing registered mail method initially to minimize confusion.
Mayor Kim Ikang of Seo-gu said, “With the introduction of the mobile electronic notification service, we will improve civil complaints, minimize vehicle inspection non-compliance, and do our best to establish an advanced traffic culture.”
