Cheonan and Asan Harvest Early-Ripening Rice Varieties Haedam and Dalmalgeunbyeo

The first rice harvest of the year has begun in Cheonan and Asan, Chungnam Province.
On the 30th, Cheonan City announced that Lee Sanghee from Daheung-ri, Seongnam-myeon, carried out the first rice reaping of the year.
The rice harvested on this day is the early-maturing variety 'Haedam', which was cultivated for 120 days after transplanting on May 3. This variety is known for its excellent cultivation stability and superior taste when cooked.
The farm cultivated 1.5 hectares and harvested 10.8 tons of rice, which will be sold entirely as newly harvested rice for Chuseok.
On the 29th, Asan City also began the first harvest of 'Dalmalgeunbyeo', the new Chuseok raw grain for the Asan Malgeunssal brand.
The previous Chuseok raw grain for the Asan Malgeunssal brand, 'Cheongabyeo', had a late heading period, raising concerns about milling yield and quality if Chuseok arrived early. Therefore, since 2004, the city has established pilot complexes covering 51.5 hectares in Yeongin and Dunpo areas and has been conducting a variety differentiation project by replacing it with the new variety Dalmalgeunbyeo.
In particular, since Dalmalgeunbyeo has an earlier heading period than the existing Cheongabyeo, it is expected to ensure stable quality and harvest even if Chuseok comes early.
Park Kyunggui, Mayor of Asan, said, "Despite the difficult conditions such as scorching heat and heavy rain, we expect a bountiful harvest this year. I sincerely appreciate the hard work of all the farmers."
