Psy Hosts Military Personnel at His Own Expense

Singer Psy has invited South Korean military personnel to his concert 'Hmph Show' for two consecutive years free of charge, and touching reviews are pouring in on social networking services (SNS).

On the 29th, the Facebook page 'Delivering on behalf of the Army Training Center (Yukdaejeon)' posted a series of reviews from soldiers who attended Psy's Hmph Show. A person introducing himself as a professional soldier belonging to the 22nd Division said, "I was invited to the world star Psy's Hmph Show on August 3rd and had a great time. I am still serving diligently with the lingering feelings from that day, which prompted me to write this post." He added, "Psy's Hmph Show lived up to its reputation," and said, "The performance accompanied by a water stream cooler than the refreshing waters of the Sokcho front sea created happy memories for my comrades and military families."

A said, "I heard that not only our unit but also soldiers and military families from nearby military bases in the Sokcho area were invited. I was once again moved by Psy's positive influence," and expressed gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank Psy and all the related parties who prepared this opportunity so that the precious memories of military life can be cherished as beautiful memories."

Earlier, Psy invited military personnel to the 'Hmph Show' free of charge for two consecutive years. The tickets for the soldiers were reportedly purchased by Psy at his own expense. The ticket prices for the Hmph Show are around 150,000 KRW, with Standing SR at 175,000 KRW and Standing R at 165,000 KRW. Last July, Psy also invited soldiers and their families from the 32nd Division to the Hmph Show.

Psy's good deed became known when a soldier revealed that he was invited to the Hmph Show held at Mokwon University in Daejeon. B, a soldier belonging to the Army's 32nd Division, said through 'Yukdaejeon', "I heard that singer Psy delivered Hmph Show tickets to the unit for soldiers who worked hard on flood damage recovery support, following last year." He expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you for remembering the military's efforts, who silently worked in heavy rain that could collapse bridges and heat waves over 30 degrees while providing civilian support."

B said, "Not only on the day of the performance but also every moment from receiving the ticket to preparing for the show was exciting and joyful," and added, "Although it was a short time, I thank singer Psy and the performance staff for giving me a precious time that I can recall for a long time even after finishing my military service."

Meanwhile, Psy is famous for having served in the military twice. He completed his military service in 2003 as an alternative service worker in the defense industry, but due to controversies such as insincere service, including performing 56 times during his service period, he re-enlisted in December 2007 and served for 25 months. Since then, Psy has visited military bases for free consolation performances or donated all his appearance fees for soldiers.

In a past broadcast, Psy said about his military service, "At one time, it gave me hard days, but ultimately it is a place I am thankful for," and added, "I continue to perform consolation shows even after discharge."
