KIC Reviews Venture Investment Trends with Public Institution Experts... Discusses AI Investment

On the 30th, KIC announced that it held the 47th meeting of the ‘Public Institution Overseas Investment Council (HaeTuHyeop)’ at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul. HaeTuHyeop is a council established in 2014 led by KIC, providing a platform for domestic public institutions to collaborate and create synergy in overseas investments. Investment officers from domestic central associations, mutual aid associations, and pension funds attended the meeting.

At this meeting, Steven Yang, Head of Venture Investment at Schroders Capital, gave a presentation on the topic of ‘Global Venture and AI Investment Status,’ and Jonas Klass, Team Leader and Data Scientist, introduced ‘Cases of AI Application in Asset Management,’ leading the discussion.

Steven Yang stated, “The proportion of unicorn companies outside the United States has been expanding recently, and the globalization of venture companies is accelerating, especially centered on Asia.” He also emphasized that the AI, tech, and biopharmaceutical sectors are driving innovation. Although venture and growth capital investments, which overheated compared to 2021, are returning to normal levels, he explained that there is a large disparity in venture fund returns depending on the asset manager and added that selecting excellent managers is important in venture investment.

Jonas Klass introduced Schroders’ generative AI-based investment analysis platform and innovative cases of applying AI technology to asset management operations, forecasting that “AI will fundamentally transform the asset management industry and private equity market, not only by improving productivity but also by providing investment solutions.”

Lee Hoon, Head of Investment Management (CIO) at KIC, who hosted the event, said in his opening remarks, “Despite macroenvironmental cautions such as the possibility of interest rate cuts, uncertainties surrounding the U.S. presidential election, and geopolitical tensions, expectations for AI technological innovation and the growth of new ecosystems are revitalizing the investment market.”
