A woman who suddenly collapsed while crossing a crosswalk was caught by the police after drugs were found in her bag.


On the 29th, a video titled "Woman Collapsed on Crosswalk, Arrested for Violation of the Narcotics Control Act" was uploaded on the YouTube channel 'Seoul Police'.


The video showed a woman lying collapsed and unable to get up at a crosswalk in Seoul. At the time, citizens glanced at the woman while crossing the crosswalk, and some gathered around to help her. Following reports from citizens, police and firefighters arrived at the scene, and the police who arrived checked the woman’s consciousness, then carefully helped her up and supported her.

The police supported the woman and moved her to the sidewalk. Paramedics checked her condition, but there was no smell of alcohol and her pulse was normal. However, seeing her somewhat slurred speech and limp body, the police judged that protective measures were necessary and checked the woman’s belongings to contact her family.


During this process, white powder and straws were found inside the bag. According to police confirmation, the white powder in two plastic bags was drugs. It was determined that the woman had taken drugs and then collapsed on the street. The woman also tested positive in a urine test and was eventually arrested.

Netizens who heard about the case reacted with comments such as "Drug penalties should be strengthened," "How could she openly carry drugs in her bag," "The era of a drug-free country is over," and "How did a drug-free country become a drug haven?"


Meanwhile, drug-related crimes are rapidly increasing. In particular, the number of arrests for supply offenders involved in drug manufacturing, smuggling, and sales has increased by more than 30% compared to a year ago. The National Police Agency announced that the number of drug supply offenders arrested in the first half of this year was 2,725, a 30.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Medical narcotics offenders also surged from 316 in 2022 to 627 in 2023. While 214 were caught in the first half of last year, 366 were arrested in the first half of this year.
