Shinhyup Social Contribution Foundation Supports Living Expenses for 123 Selected Individuals
Over 6 Years, 1,194 People Received Scholarships Totaling 1.09 Billion Won
The Shinhan Credit Union Social Contribution Foundation announced on the 30th that it has awarded scholarships totaling 47 million KRW to 60 underprivileged university students and supported scholarships worth 95 million KRW for 123 students this year (63 in the first half and 60 in the second half).
Through its scholarship support program, the Shinhan Foundation selects scholarship recipients twice a year, in the first and second halves, to help underprivileged university students reduce their financial burdens and focus on their studies. Recommendations are received from workplace credit unions affiliated with universities and small credit unions with limited social contribution opportunities. Starting in 2019 by supporting students in employment and industrial crisis areas such as Gunsan and Geoje, the foundation has provided scholarships totaling 1,089.8 million KRW to 1,194 students over six years, including those from low-income families, people with disabilities, and youth preparing for independence.
Kim Yoon-sik, Chairman of the National Credit Union Federation of Korea, stated, “We hope that the Shinhan Credit Union scholarships will serve as an opportunity for students to take one step closer to their dreams without losing hope despite difficult circumstances. We will continue to fulfill our social responsibility by engaging in various social contribution activities for future generations, enabling young people to concentrate on their studies and grow into talented individuals.”
Meanwhile, besides the scholarship support program, the Shinhan Foundation is promoting various talent development projects for nurturing future generations, such as the economic education program “Eobuba Mentoring,” where credit union employees serve as mentors for underprivileged children, and the “Gugak Young Talent Development Project,” operated in cooperation with the Traditional Korean Music Arts Institute to revive traditional culture and promote arts education.
