Outdoor Library Enjoyed Inside and Outside Various Libraries in Nowon-gu
Four Events from September to October Featuring Unique Activities and Experiences at Each Library
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the reading culture event 'Ora! (OPEN LIBRARY)' in September to celebrate the 'Month of Reading.'
The 'Ora!' festival is a cultural event that transforms the inside and outside of libraries into an 'outdoor library' where people can freely enjoy books and relax in open outdoor spaces, providing a positive reading experience. It features a variety of cultural events such as lectures, exhibitions, performances, and events, allowing even those who find reading challenging to enjoy together.
This event, centered around Nowon-gu public libraries, will be held at four locations: starting with the Nowon Children's Library Festival on September 1, followed by Sanggye Library on September 21, Nowon Central Library on October 19, and Bulam Library on October 26.
The first event at Nowon Children's Library includes a meeting with author Kim Yu, who wrote 'Saja Mart,' selected as Nowon-gu’s One Book, as well as magic and bubble shows, book cube making experiences, and book sharing. Especially, the lawn at Satgatbong Neighborhood Park near the library will be set up as a book picnic area with bean bags, picnic mats, and camping chairs, allowing visitors to enjoy reading leisurely.
Sanggye Library will utilize its front yard to display popular books selected from previously curated books and hold a 'Picture Book Reading with Reading In (Reading 人) Activists.' Additionally, small-scale music performances blending piano and violin melodies, a 'Sand Art' show introducing fairy tale books using sand, face painting, and photo booths will be offered to enhance interest.
At Nowon Central Library, the venue will be expanded to Onsu Neighborhood Park, creating themed zones such as the Book Rest Zone, Performance Zone, and Experience Zone. Programs include the 'Nowon Human Library,' which lends 'human books' to share their experiences and talents, performances by Nowon-gu young artists 'Haegum Groove,' and pop-up stores hosted by the Nowon Craft Beer Cooperative and CGV.
Finally, Bulam Library will present a festival under the theme 'Likrary (like myself, like earth, like library),' which aims to foster a process of loving oneself and extending that love to the earth through the library. Various experiential programs combining book curation, original artwork exhibitions, book art, meetings with authors, and the local reading group 'Chaekmomo' are prepared, allowing participants of all ages from infants to adults to enjoy.

Meanwhile, the district has established 'A Library Within 10 Minutes on Foot in Our Neighborhood' throughout the area to make books easily and conveniently accessible to all residents. It is also promoting various projects to create a book-reading cultural city in Nowon, including the establishment of 'Smart Libraries' that support 24-hour non-face-to-face book lending and return services for residents who find it difficult to visit libraries during working hours.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “What enriches our lives is consistent reading in daily life,” and added, “As we enter the season perfect for reading, I hope everyone enjoys a rich autumn filled with books and culture.”
