Seocho-gu Expands Installation of Unmanned Transparent PET Bottle Collection Machines to Lead Resource Recycling Culture Transparent PET bottle unmanned collection machine installed at Yangjae Hanaro Mart. Provided by Seocho-gu.

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 30th that the unmanned collection machines for transparent PET bottles installed to promote resource recycling and the culture of separate disposal are receiving positive responses. The unmanned collection machines for transparent PET bottles are evaluated to be effective in increasing the recovery rate of high-quality recyclable resources and establishing a resource circulation culture.

In response to continuous requests from residents for additional installations, an unmanned collection machine for transparent PET bottles was additionally installed at Yangjae Hanaro Mart, which is frequently used by residents this year. Through this, residents will be able to use the unmanned collection machines more easily, and it is expected that the culture of resource circulation and separate disposal will spread further.

The newly installed unmanned collection machines for transparent PET bottles utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technology to recognize recyclable resources and enable automatic sorting and compression storage. Users can accumulate 10 points (10 won) per transparent PET bottle, and when they accumulate more than 2,000 points, they can exchange them for cash. Additionally, members of the Good Seocho Coin program can enjoy additional accumulation benefits with Seocho Coin. After signing up for the Seocho Coin app, which will be upgraded at the end of next month, users can complete point accumulation by scanning the QR code on the transparent PET bottle and uploading a verification photo.

Seocho-gu started operating unmanned collection machines for transparent PET bottles in line with the enforcement of the mandatory separate disposal of transparent PET bottles in 2021. Currently, a total of 17 unmanned collection machines for transparent PET bottles are operated, one each at all community service centers except Seocho 3-dong and Banpo Bon-dong, and at Yangjae Hanaro Mart. Up to last month, a total of 27,923 kg of transparent PET bottles have been collected.

Meanwhile, the district plans to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases and promoting recycling by producing guidelines for separate disposal of waste vinyl in volume-based waste bags and dedicated waste vinyl bags, and distributing them to stores in concentrated management areas through education and publicity to expand the separate disposal and recycling of waste vinyl for reducing household waste.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “We will continue to strive to expand resource circulation projects that residents can easily practice in their daily lives.”
