The Korea Communications Commission's Budget for Next Year is 248.5 Billion Won... 12.4 Billion Won Allocated for KBS Support

300 Million Won for Protecting Users from AI Risks

The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 29th that it has allocated a budget of 248.5 billion KRW for the next fiscal year.

The Commission allocated 9.3 billion KRW for creating a fair and safe broadcasting and telecommunications environment, 71.2 billion KRW to support the growth of the media content industry, and 45.4 billion KRW to realize a digital inclusive society without discrimination.


A budget of 1.94 billion KRW will be invested to promote voluntary user protection, including enhancing users' telecommunications service utilization capabilities, education to prevent harm to digitally vulnerable groups, and evaluation of user protection tasks.


To strengthen market surveillance functions against illegal activities by mobile carriers and retail stores such as false, exaggerated, or deceptive advertisements, 3.54 billion KRW has been allocated.


A budget of 3.495 billion KRW has been set for establishing a foundation to revitalize the location information industry for innovative growth and social safety net reinforcement, as well as strengthening emergency rescue support systems utilizing location information.


As a new project, 298 million KRW has been prepared for artificial intelligence (AI) to establish a foundation to protect users from risks such as discrimination, bias, or false and manipulated information in generative AI services.


6 hundred million KRW will be invested to revitalize the domestic online video service (OTT) industry and establish a foundation for overseas expansion. Efforts will include overseas local OTT market research and hosting international forums to foster digital and media innovation growth.


A budget of 2.143 billion KRW has been allocated to support the overseas expansion of Korean broadcasting content.


To strengthen KBS's public responsibility and expand content provision, a total budget of 12.441 billion KRW has been allocated for KBS's international broadcasting transmission support (6 billion KRW) and program production support (6.3 billion KRW), an increase of about 1.6 billion KRW compared to the previous year.


To promote regional balanced development and strengthen regional broadcasting content production capabilities, 4.464 billion KRW will be invested in support projects such as program production and distribution.


A budget of 4.161 billion KRW has been allocated for broadcasting advertisement production and consulting support projects targeting small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners who are struggling due to prolonged economic downturn.


To improve the viewing convenience of visually and hearing-impaired persons and to close the viewing gap, a budget of 21.8 billion KRW has been allocated, an increase of 1.694 billion KRW compared to the previous year, for expanding customized TV distribution and supporting the production of broadcasting programs for the disabled.


224 billion KRW will be invested to operate viewer media centers and additionally establish media-sharing buses targeting marginalized local residents.


The Commission’s budget proposal will be finalized after review and approval by the National Assembly.
