Teenagers Who Went Up the Gwisin Sodong Soundproof Tunnel... Why They Did It

Live Broadcast Viewer Concerned, Reported to Police
The Same Tunnel Where a Middle School Student Went Last Year

An incident occurred where teenage students climbed onto a highway soundproof tunnel, which had previously become a topic of discussion when a middle school student climbed it. According to the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency Highway Patrol on the 29th, a 112 report was received at around 11:10 PM the previous day stating, "There are people on the soundproof tunnel." At that time, two teenagers, including high school student A, climbed onto the Gwanggyo soundproof tunnel on the Yeongdong Expressway in Suwon City, heading towards Incheon, and were conducting a live broadcast on social networking services (SNS).

It is known that a viewer watching the broadcast reported to the police out of concern for the risk of an accident. The police who arrived at the scene safely rescued A and the other teenager who were on top of the soundproof tunnel. The soundproof tunnel they climbed on was the same place where middle school student B was rescued last June after climbing up, saying, "I wanted to see the sunset sky because it was pretty."

At that time, a black box video showing B climbing the soundproof tunnel became a hot topic on online communities and social networking services (SNS). A ladder for facility inspection is installed next to this soundproof tunnel, and it was confirmed that there was no locking device at that time. During the police investigation, A and the others reportedly stated that they climbed the soundproof tunnel again to attract viewers' attention, referring to the middle school student who had climbed it before.

The police are investigating the circumstances under which A and the others climbed the soundproof tunnel. A Korea Expressway Corporation official said, "After the middle school student climbed and was rescued last year, a locking device to block passage was installed on the ladder here," adding, "We will take measures after receiving related information as the police identify how A and the others climbed."
