Wallpaper and Flooring Replacement Activities for Housing-Vulnerable Neighbors

Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) carried out residential environment improvement (ECO) volunteer activities on June 28 and 29, visiting vulnerable neighbors living near the campus in Nam-gu and Suyeong-gu, Busan.

Over two days, about 40 members of the PKNU Student Volunteer Group’s Social Contribution Volunteer Division visited four local households, providing services such as wallpapering, replacing floor coverings, repairing bathrooms and other facilities, handling waste disposal, and cleaning the environment.

Students of Pukyong National University are carrying out volunteer activities to improve housing conditions (home repairs).

The beneficiary households were selected by Pukyong National University based on recommendations from Nam-gu District Office and Suyeong-gu Senior Welfare Center, focusing on elderly people living alone, basic livelihood security recipients, and households with persons with disabilities. Nam-gu District Office and Suyeong-gu Senior Welfare Center also participated in the volunteer activities by providing garbage bags and supporting waste collection.

Faculty and staff from the facilities department at Pukyong National University assisted with electrical work requiring specialized skills, while students helped transport materials and volunteer waste, and contributed to cleaning the surrounding environment.

Since 2006, Pukyong National University has supported the repair of over 90 households by conducting residential environment improvement volunteer activities during the school vacation for 19 consecutive years.

Kim Seungmin, student representative of the volunteer group (senior, Department of Economics), shared, “I felt a sense of fulfillment by helping make our neighbors’ living environments a little more pleasant. It was a valuable experience that made me reflect on the people around me once again.”

The Pukyong National University volunteer group is committed to social contribution through various activities, including home repair volunteering, recycling sorting, and mentoring for youth in protected or vulnerable groups.
