"An Extremely Meaningful and Historic Event Achieved After 19 Years"
The Korean Nurses Association (KNA) expressed its welcome for the passage of the Nursing Act in the National Assembly plenary session.
On the 28th, the KNA stated, "This is a very meaningful and historic event achieved after a long 19 years since the bill was first attempted in the National Assembly in 2005," adding, "After shouting and appealing our hopes in front of the National Assembly for over three years, the long-awaited Nursing Act bill was finally passed in today’s plenary session."
They continued, "As the first livelihood bill achieved through bipartisan cooperation in the 22nd National Assembly, its significance is even greater."
They also said, "With the passage of the Nursing Act in the National Assembly, the path has been opened to establish a nursing care system and realize universal health coverage," adding, "The state’s responsibility for training excellent nursing personnel, appropriate allocation, and securing skilled nursing staff has been legislated, laying the foundation for building a healthy Republic of Korea."
Furthermore, they emphasized, "The Nursing Act will contribute to realizing the public value of universal health rights and social care for the people, as well as maintaining fairness and common sense in the health and medical sector," and "Nurses will actively participate in the medical reform currently being promoted by the government."
