Chungnam National University and Korea National University of Transportation Advance, Hannam University Eliminated
Daejeon City announced on the 28th that Daejeon Health University has been finally selected for the Ministry of Education's 2024 "Glocal University 30" project.
In Daejeon, four universities in three proposals?Chungnam National University+Korea National University of Science and Technology (integrated type), Hannam University (independent type), and Daejeon Health University (ultra-regional alliance type)?were preliminarily selected for the Glocal University 30 project, but only Daejeon Health University was officially designated in the ultra-regional alliance category.
Daejeon Health University will receive 100 billion KRW in national funding over five years, and Daejeon City also plans to provide financial support and cooperate to ensure linkage with local industries.
Daejeon Health University, together with Daegu Health University and Gwangju Health University, proposed the establishment of the Handalbit Glocal Health Alliance University, integrated operation of the alliance school through unified decision-making in admissions, education, and academic management, and a model for building specialized campuses by technology.
Following the establishment of the University Innovation Support Division in January this year, Daejeon City also launched the Education Policy Strategy Bureau on July 1 through organizational restructuring, formulating tailored strategies for the city's higher education policies, including support for the Glocal University 30 project and preparation for RISE.
Kim Nakcheol, Director of the Education Policy Strategy Bureau of Daejeon City, said, "We will actively support the Glocal University 30 project to ensure that the specialization strategies and innovation projects contained in the universities' implementation plans are successfully completed in connection with regional industrial development."
He added, "We will continue to communicate and cooperate with universities that were not selected this year and those applying in 2025, and prepare thoroughly and strategically."
