Woo Won-sik, Speaker of the National Assembly, "Medical Conflict Issues Must Be Resolved... Will Create a Platform for Social Dialogue"

Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik stated on the 28th, "I believe the medical conflict issue must be resolved," and added, "I am now thinking of stepping forward myself."

On the same day, Woo appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and responded to criticism that the National Assembly has failed to play a role regarding the medical conflict. He said, "There is still no solution to the medical crisis, and recently, even Representative Han Dong-hoon proposed a solution to the government, but the government said it was difficult, right? The situation has reached a crisis level that cannot be postponed even a little."

Regarding the solution, Woo said, "I plan to meet with the relevant parties specifically," adding, "As the Speaker of the National Assembly, I am the one who sets the stage, so I will create the platform and facilitate dialogue. The government, the National Assembly, and stakeholders will gather to have social dialogue. I intend to guide this process based on the functions and roles of the National Assembly so that it can proceed as social dialogue."

Amid ongoing confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties over the legislation of the 'Broadcasting 4 Acts,' which aim to change the governance structure of public broadcasting, Speaker Woo once again proposed a mediation plan.

In response to a question about reconsidering the previously proposed nationwide consultative body to both ruling and opposition parties, Woo answered, "I think it is absolutely necessary." He said, "There has been significant conflict and clashes over the system and governance of public broadcasting. How to handle this?public broadcasting’s autonomy, public interest, and fairness?is a very necessary matter. A discussion period of two months should be sufficient."

Regarding the proposal for the nationwide consultative body, Woo said, "Previously, the ruling party said they would proceed with the appointment of public broadcasting directors as planned but would participate in the framework of discussions of the nationwide consultative body," and added, "Since the opposition party accepted my proposal at that time, I now ask the government and ruling party to be the first to participate."
