Ulsan Office of Education Begins Full Operation of 7th Citizens' Participatory Budget Committee

30 Members Serve for 2 Years, Citizens' Opinions Reflected in Budget

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Changsoo) held an inauguration ceremony for the 7th Citizens’ Participatory Budget Committee at the Jiphyeon Room of the Office of Education on the 27th and officially began its operations.

The 7th Citizens’ Participatory Budget Committee is composed of a total of 30 members: 15 ordinary citizens selected through an open recruitment process with three representatives from each district and county, 10 members recommended by the city council, education and finance experts, and civic group activists, and 5 affiliated public officials.

The term of office is two years, from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026.

The committee members will gather citizens’ opinions on the Ulsan education budget and provide input on budget formulation, directly participating in the budgeting process as representatives of the citizens.

At the meeting, the Ulsan Office of Education held an appointment ceremony for the 7th committee members, elected a chairperson and vice-chairperson to oversee the committee’s operations for the next two years, and conducted training to enhance the members’ expertise.

Superintendent Cheon Changsoo stated, “The Citizens’ Participatory Budget System allows Ulsan citizens to directly participate in the education budget formulation process and reflect their perspectives in the budget,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that participatory budget projects proposed and reviewed by citizens are reflected in next year’s main budget.”

This year, the Ulsan Office of Education received 38 project proposals through the Citizens’ Participatory Budget public contest and plans to select the final five projects through a two-stage review process by September.
