Collaboration with Conrad Shokros... Unveiled at KIAF Seoul 2024
Pernod Ricard Korea announced on the 28th that it will launch the top-tier lineup of the prestige whiskey brand 'Royal Salute,' the ‘Royal Salute Time Chamber by Conrad Shawcross’ (hereinafter referred to as Time Chamber). This limited edition, created in collaboration with world-renowned British artist Conrad Shawcross, is a premium 53-year-old whiskey with only 21 pieces available worldwide and just one piece in Korea.
Since 2022, Royal Salute has been conducting the ‘Art of Wonder’ project to pay tribute to the realm of infinite creativity and innovation in art and design. Following its first collaboration last year with Kate MacGarry, this second project presents the rarest whiskey with the highest age statement in the brand lineup through partnerships with the most outstanding contemporary artists.
The second collaborative project was with Conrad Shawcross, one of the youngest members of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, known for his innovative works that traverse the boundaries of science, philosophy, and art. The core inspiration for Shawcross in this collaboration was ‘time.’ After visiting the Strathisla Distillery in Scotland, which produces the core malt for Royal Salute, he was inspired by the aging process of high-age statement whiskey and the ‘time’ that determines the quality and flavor of whiskey, completing the Time Chamber composed of various art pieces. The handcrafted glass discs that make up the main body represent the star systems of the endless night sky, while the spin and arrow-shaped crystal decanter piercing through the center of the discs symbolize the vector of time indicating direction.
Royal Salute enhanced the meaning of the artwork by containing a 53-year-old whiskey, symbolizing the pinnacle of time, in the Time Chamber. The 53-year-old whiskey, boasting the highest age statement among Royal Salute products, commemorates the year 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Master Blender Sandy Hislop personally selected raw spirits aged for at least 53 years from across Scotland to create a delicate and sophisticated blend. This edition offers a complex and refined flavor with rich berry fruit aromas, the sweetness of walnut, and toasted oak notes that leave a long finish, making it the finest product to experience Royal Salute’s pinnacle collection blending expertise and flavor.
The Time Chamber edition will be unveiled to domestic consumers for the first time at KIAF Seoul 2024, held at COEX, Seoul, from the 5th to the 8th of next month, starting with a VIP preview on the 4th. KIAF Seoul, which hosts prestigious galleries from home and abroad every year, is one of Korea’s top three art fairs where visitors can experience the paradigm of the art market.
During this period, Royal Salute will exhibit its regular brand lineup, including the newly designed ‘Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute,’ along with limited edition fashion and polo lifestyle collections. Additionally, to allow visitors to enjoy the finest artworks alongside the best whiskey, Royal Salute’s 21-year lineup will be available for purchase by the glass at the exhibition venue.
