A Walkable City Nowon-gu's 'Smart Nowon Fit' Pilot Operation

District News of Nowon and Nowon-style Walking Mileage Unified
Mobile 'Smart Nowon' App Enhanced to Become an 'Integrated Community Sports Platform'
Incentives for Promoting Community Sports Exclusive to Nowon Residents, Including Small Group Activities

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will pilot the operation of 'Smart Nowon Fit' to expand daily sports activities based on everyday walking.

Smart Nowon Fit is an ‘integrated daily sports platform’ designed to encourage residents to practice walking and engage in physical activities in their daily lives through a mobile app. Since the walking app ‘Walk-on’ available to everyone was found to have difficulties providing customized services to meet residents’ needs, a dedicated platform was prepared.

The app focuses on customization for residents, allowing users to easily check various daily sports infrastructures in the district. Users can view ▲facilities operated by administrative dong and by sport, ▲detailed sports programs, as well as ▲various walking courses used for walking challenges.

To encourage continuous participation from residents, a Nowon-style walking mileage accumulation system will also be operated. Individuals can accumulate up to 50,000 points annually through ‘daily step goals’ set by themselves, various ‘walking challenges’ promoted to establish a walking culture, and ‘event participation’ linked to local events.

The mileage accumulation criteria will be structured differently depending on participants’ age groups, step counts, and whether they are Nowon-gu residents. The mileage earned based on the individual’s daily step goal can be freely used for mobile gift certificates, donations, or other options chosen by the individual.

Finally, the app provides a communication space among residents through the operation of an online community. The communication space is divided into a ‘Resident Bulletin Board’ and a ‘Club Bulletin Board,’ both accessible to all residents. The Club Bulletin Board is intended to revitalize walking clubs that have been nurtured so far, and requires separate member authentication to enhance the cohesion of club members.

The official operation is scheduled for September, and more detailed information can be found on the Nowon-gu Office website and the official Nowon-gu blog. For further inquiries, contact the Sports City Division, Sports Project Team.

Meanwhile, the district is creating community sports centers by region to foster positive habits of physical activity in residents’ daily lives and encourage active participation. Currently, various daily sports programs such as ▲swimming, ▲equipment Pilates, ▲climbing, ▲basketball, and ▲table tennis are being operated.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Daily sports are the best welfare directly linked to residents’ healthy lives. Through Smart Nowon Fit, we will improve accessibility to daily sports facilities and programs and expand rewards for walking participants so that residents can manage their health more actively.”
