The representative festival of Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu), the '2024 Hwasun Dolmen Autumn Flower Festival,' will be held for 17 days from October 18 to November 3 across the entire dolmen site area (Dogok-myeon Hyosan-ri, Chunyang-myeon Daesin-ri).
The autumn flower festival held in October is expected to captivate tourists with chrysanthemums, cosmos, sunflowers, and cockscomb spread over a vast area of 4 hectares including Hyosan-ri, Dogok-myeon, Hwasun, living up to its reputation.
Additionally, the exhibition of over 400 chrysanthemum artworks, performances, and various experience programs are anticipated to further elevate the festival atmosphere.
What differs from previous festivals is that, for the first time in Hwasun-gun’s festival history, an admission fee will be charged. However, this admission fee is 5,000 KRW per person and will be fully refunded in the form of Hwasun Love Gift Certificates.
The gift certificates can be used not only at the festival site but throughout Hwasun-gun, positively impacting the local economy. Residents of Hwasun-gun and others are entitled to free admission in principle, and ID verification is mandatory upon entry.
Nighttime festival operations are also a notable feature. Although the average visit duration for tourists at the Dolmen Festival is 3 to 4 hours and accessibility from Gwangju is convenient, the short stay time was a drawback. To encourage longer stays, on Saturdays, October 19 and 26, the festival will operate until 9 PM with nightscapes and the 2024 DM Concert, creating a romantic autumn space.
The festival is also environmentally friendly. All sales booths at the festival will use reusable containers prepared by Hwasun-gun, and tourists are required to return the containers to designated locations after eating. The plan is to limit the use of disposable products at festival sales booths and promote a healthy and sustainable festival through the use of reusable containers.
Considering synergy effects with the Namsan Festival (tentative title) to be held in the city center during the same period, shuttle buses running round-trip to Hwasun-eup for Dolmen Festival visitors and various events are being planned.
Gu Bok-gyu, Governor of Hwasun-gun, said, “Since we are charging an admission fee for this autumn flower festival, we will expand the well-received aspects of previous festivals and improve the lacking parts to ensure tourists are not disappointed. We will do our best to prepare.” He added, “We hope for your continued support and participation in this year’s festival.”
