Under the Theme 'Theater, Looking at the World'
Held for Six Days from September 3 to 8
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province will host the '2024 Gumi Asia Theater Festival' from September 3 to September 8 at the Small Theater Gongteoda and Shared Space HamkkehanDA, organized by the Gumi Branch of the Korea Theater Association (President Kim Youngsim).
This year's festival, held under the theme "Here, Looking at the World," will run for six days and feature official performances by two overseas theater troupes (from Japan) and five domestic teams, as well as special small theater productions by six teams.
The official performance schedule begins on September 3 with the Japanese troupe TAIYO MAGIC FILM's "Room Akane" as the opening international guest performance. On September 4, Theater Dosirak will present "Hi-Tai," followed by Theater Power Plant 301's "See the Human" on September 5, Theater Hyeonjang's "Island" on September 6, and Japanese troupe Aokirimikan's "Today, Mom Died" on September 7, totaling five main stage works. On September 8, special productions by emerging artists will be showcased, including Theater Beokbeok's "Chameleon" and Theater Naegabonda's "Love Tips."
The small theater productions, each with a 30-minute running time, will feature Theater Sum's "Golden Watch" on September 3, Theater Jerajin's "Save the Earth" on September 4, Theater Bandi's "Newspaper Story" on September 5, Theater Bu-eong-i's "Let's Go See Inside the Tiger's Belly!" on September 6, Theater Ssukssuk's "The Story Only the Doll Grandmother Doesn't Know" on September 7, and Theater Winter's "Grandfather and the Sled" on September 8. During the same period, the Gumi Asia Theater Festival Exhibition, a side event introducing participating works, will also be held.
Kim Youngsim, president of the Gumi branch of the Korea Theater Association, commented, "Now in its 15th year, the Asia Theater Festival is always energized by the support of Gumi citizens, who motivate us to prepare for the event every time. I hope this will be an enjoyable performing arts festival where we can appreciate great works together."
Tickets are priced at 20,000 won for adults and 15,000 won for students, and can be purchased online via Naver, Yes24, Interpark, Ticketlink, or at the venue box office.
