A female BJ revealed her feelings by exposing matters related to a drug case through her YouTube channel community.
BJ Gamdongran (real name Kim So-eun), active on AfreecaTV, said on the 23rd, "The AfreecaTV drug scandal has erupted again, but only the distributors and sellers go to jail, and the rest, who only use drugs, usually get fined or receive a suspended sentence since they are first-time offenders," adding, "The punishment for drug offenders is too lenient." She continued, "AfreecaTV itself has struggled desperately, even changing its name to improve its image, but while gambling is treated lightly, it is very lenient toward serious crimes like prostitution mediation and drugs, which is truly the height of contradiction," and stated, "In reality, even if they serve prison sentences or cause controversies, they return without problems and earn tens of millions to hundreds of millions of won monthly and live well."
She claimed, "As Excelization progresses and personal broadcasting becomes increasingly difficult, BJs try to band together with the so-called influential people and parasitize them to make money," adding, "To join their group and earn money, you have to do drugs and have sexual relations. If you don't, they won't let you join the league or send you Star Balloons." The 'Excelization' Gamdongran referred to means the 'Excel broadcast,' one of AfreecaTV's main content formats. This format organizes the ranking of Star Balloons received by female BJs on one side of the screen like an Excel document. It usually involves several female BJs appearing on a male BJ's broadcast, dancing and receiving Star Balloons. This format is known to encourage competition among fans, prompting them to purchase more Star Balloons.
Gamdongran said, "Currently, the only way to make a lot of money in the broadcasting scene is through Excel," and "To receive many Star Balloons in Excel, you have to pay a corresponding price." She also lamented, "This place is a kingdom of animals full of cyber pimps and cyber prostitutes," and "It is hard to live as a herbivore in a jungle teeming with predators."
Meanwhile, on the 16th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul arrested AfreecaTV BJ Kim (33) on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. He is suspected of using drugs such as ketamine from October 2022 to August last year and selling narcotics worth tens of millions of won. The police also booked about ten others, including BJ Park (35), who received and used drugs supplied by Kim, other BJs, executives and employees of related entertainment companies, and supporters who sent Star Balloons.
