PlayB Chat Event Surpasses 10,000 Concurrent Users
Kakao Entertainment announced on the 27th that the chat event of the virtual idol group PLAVE on the music platform Melon surpassed 10,000 concurrent users for the first time.
Music Wave, launched by Melon in July last year, is a service where users can listen together to music being played in real-time on channels composed of various themes and enjoy chatting. Each channel supports infinite continuous music playback without the need for users to select songs separately. If there is no channel with the desired theme, users can request the creation of a new one.
The most popular channels are those dedicated to specific artists where fans listen to music together. Since the beginning of this year, Melon has been holding chat events on each artist channel where fandoms and singers communicate while listening to new songs simultaneously with the release of new albums. A total of 26 Music Wave chat events involving artists directly participating have been held this year, and despite being available only to Melon paid members, thousands of fans gather each time.
In particular, the PLAVE chat event held on the 21st set a new Music Wave record with a maximum of 10,639 concurrent users and a cumulative 35,200 users. Additionally, starting with Gugongtan (BTOB) on the 9th, PLAVE on the 21st, and NCT Jaehyun on the 26th consecutively held events on Music Wave. On the same day, NMIXX and on the 28th, Zerobaseone are scheduled to meet with fans.
Kim Seon-kyung, head of the Content Planning and Operations Group at Kakao Entertainment, said, "Music Wave originated from an idea at Enterton (Kakao Entertainment’s in-house hackathon event for technology and development competition) and has become a major communication channel favored by K-pop fandoms." She added, "We will continue to listen closely to the needs of fandoms, the main customers of the music industry, and further strengthen the platform’s competitiveness."
