Jeon Uju of Mokcheon High Wins Bronze at Junior Track Cycling World Championships

At the 2024 Junior Track Cycling World Championships held in Luoyang, China, from the 21st to the 25th, Jeon Wooju, representing Korea in the team sprint event, won the bronze medal along with teammates Jeon Jaeho, Jeong Seokwoo, and Choi Taeho.

In the preliminary round, they finished second overall with a time of 44.747 seconds, just 0.1 seconds behind China. However, in the first round of the finals, they recorded 44.660 seconds and were pushed into the 3rd-4th place match against France.

In the match for the bronze medal against France, they clocked 44.222 seconds, securing the medal. The time of 44.222 seconds recorded in the bronze medal match was even faster than the 44.270 seconds achieved by the gold medal-winning Czech team.

Additionally, in the individual 1km time trial, Jeon set a personal best of 1 minute 01.09 seconds, finishing 7th out of 38 competitors.

Notably, since the UCI Junior Track World Championships are open to athletes aged 17 to 18, this year marks Jeon Wooju's first appearance at age 17, raising expectations for next year's event.

Jeon Wooju said, "I will use the experience gained from this competition as a stepping stone to achieve good results at the upcoming 105th National Sports Festival," and added, "I am grateful to my school, coaches, and parents for their strong support."
