Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province is set to establish a 'Basic Plan for Urban Industrial Areas' to develop systematic and planned management measures for industrial areas within the region.
According to the city on the 26th, following the enactment of the 'Special Act on the Management and Revitalization of Urban Industrial Areas' in 2021, a legal foundation was established to prepare systematic and planned management measures for urban industrial areas. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is to establish the national basic policy for industrial areas, while local governments will formulate basic plans for industrial areas, including directions for their maintenance.
The target area for the basic plan covers 3.54㎢, excluding industrial areas developed under other laws such as industrial complexes.
The main contents of the basic plan include ▲management of the aging status of industrial areas ▲restoration of competitiveness ▲linkage with surrounding areas ▲improvement of the environment in aging industrial areas ▲and promotion of regeneration into urban-type industrial areas through advancement measures.
Through this project, the city plans to include management measures by type, such as industrial maintenance type and innovation type, as well as directions for infrastructure support in the draft basic plan. The city will gather opinions from residents, business owners, experts, and the city council, and after review by the Urban Planning Committee, aims to complete the basic plan by the second half of next year.
A Bucheon city official stated, "There is a need for systematic management and restructuring of aging industrial areas in Bucheon." He added, "Through the preparation of this basic plan, we will do our best to enhance the competitiveness of resident companies within industrial areas and create a pleasant urban environment."
