Kim Min-seok, a Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized that "Jeonnam is not only the political source of the Democratic Party but also the top priority region for realizing Representative Lee Jae-myung's 'Energy Highway'."
On the morning of the 26th, Council Member Kim stated, "Last weekend, I visited Gokseong County and Yeonggwang County in Jeonnam with Supreme Council Member Han Jun-ho to assess the local situation," adding, "The party leadership, including myself and Lee Han-joo, head of the Democratic Research Institute, will visit the area again this week to begin the party-level policy concretization work." He continued, "Gokseong County is a high-risk area for population extinction, and Yeonggwang County is the optimal place for realizing basic income, making them policy-leading regions for the Democratic Party."
Gokseong County and Yeonggwang County in Jeonnam will hold elections on October 16 to fill the vacant county governor positions after the loss of their incumbents. The National Innovation Party, formed through proportional representation, announced that it will make every effort at the central party level in the by-elections, aiming to discover local politicians for the first time in these areas. Accordingly, a fierce battle between the Democratic Party and the National Innovation Party is expected in Honam, the Democratic Party's stronghold.

Council Member Kim said, "The Democratic Party will go beyond the forces that simply ask for unconditional support because Honam is our political hometown," adding, "We will put forward clean and competent candidates under fair competition and actively support policies at the party level." Furthermore, he stated, "The Democratic Party and Representative Lee Jae-myung will develop Honam," emphasizing, "We will make it clear that only the Democratic Party is the sole alternative responsible for the region's development and future."
Meanwhile, on the same day, the National Innovation Party recruited Park Woong-doo, head of the Gokseong County Healing Agriculture Association (56, male), as Talent No. 2, registering him as a preliminary candidate for the Jeonnam Gokseong County governor. Representative Jo introduced Park as "a person who has tirelessly worked for the development of Gokseong County and has represented the agricultural spirit while staying in the field for over 30 years."
