SKT Offers 'Passkey Authentication System' for Password-Free Login

SKT Offers Passkey Authentication System as SaaS
Authenticate via Biometric or PIN Input Without Password
Applied to Domestic Company Employee Welfare Mall Benefia in September

SK Telecom announced on the 26th that it will provide a passkey authentication system, which allows login and authentication without a password, as a Software as a Service (SaaS) to companies wishing to adopt it.

SKT Offers 'Passkey Authentication System' for Password-Free Login

Passkey is a global standard (W3C) technology that enables authentication and login through a public key cryptography algorithm instead of a password. Users can easily log in using the authentication methods supported by their devices (such as biometric authentication or PIN) without the need to set or remember a password.

Major global companies such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft (MS) have adopted passkey authentication as the default authentication method for their operating systems (OS), and other domestic and international companies are also adopting passkeys in their services.

SKT developed its own passkey authentication system last year and applied it to its identity verification service app, PASS. It has been preparing its passkey authentication system in SaaS form to enable other companies to easily implement passkeys.

In particular, as a member of the global FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, a standardization consortium for authentication, SKT is participating in establishing international standards for passkeys. Companies adopting SKT’s passkey SaaS can use a passkey authentication system that reflects the latest standards.

Companies wishing to adopt SKT passkeys can use the guides and application programming interfaces (APIs) published on the SKT passkey SaaS portal to develop and test passkeys, and general users can also experience passkey creation and login demos.

SKT passkey SaaS can build passkey environments across various service platforms such as PC, smartphone web, and apps. Once a user registers a passkey for a service with passkey authentication applied for the first time, they can continuously use it regardless of device type or device changes.

Since passwords themselves do not exist, social issues such as password theft or phishing attacks through fake sites are fundamentally impossible, ensuring the safety of personal information and assets.

Starting next month, Benepia, Korea’s leading employee welfare mall used by about 3,700 companies and institutions, will apply SKT passkey SaaS.

Oh Se-hyun, Head of SKT Web3 CO (Vice President), said, "Passkey provides users with a safe and convenient login and authentication experience, and for companies, it will lay the foundation for growth by improving customer churn rates and reducing security resources. We will support many companies to easily and quickly adopt passkeys through SKT passkey SaaS in the future."
