Lee Chang-yoon, 1st Vice Minister of Science and Technology, Discusses Korea-US Science and Technology Cooperation with Korean-American Scholars

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th that First Vice Minister Lee Chang-yoon attended the 2024 Korea-US Science and Technology Conference (UKC) held in San Francisco, USA, where he reviewed the achievements of Korean-American scientists and discussed ways to expand science and technology cooperation between the two countries.

At the 'Science Policy and Diplomacy Forum,' First Vice Minister Lee emphasized the importance of Korea-US basic science cooperation in line with the expansion of global basic research. At the KISTEP-CSIS joint forum on 'Korea-US Economic Security Cooperation,' he called for communication between think tanks of both countries to strengthen cooperation in core and emerging technologies.


On the 22nd, Vice Minister Lee visited the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to check the progress of synthetic biology and biofoundry cooperation between the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) and LBNL, and on the 24th, he attended the plaque unveiling ceremony of the Korea-US Semiconductor R&D Cooperation Center.

Vice Minister Lee stated, "The role of Korean scientists active in the US as researchers and entrepreneurs is very important in promoting global R&D aiming to be the best in the world," and added, "We will actively expand Korea-US cooperation opportunities such as joint research and personnel exchanges so that the valuable experiences and research achievements of Korean-American scientists can be connected to domestic research sites."
