Gangnam-gu Supports Unauthorized Shantytown with Help from HiteJinro and Korea Racing Authority

Electricity Bill and Bottled Water Support for Guryong, Dalteo, Jaegun, and Sujeong Villages

Gangnam-gu Supports Unauthorized Shantytown with Help from HiteJinro and Korea Racing Authority

Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) announced on the 25th that it provided electricity bills for air conditioning and bottled water to cooling shelters operating in four unauthorized shantytown areas?Guryong, Dalteo, Jaegeon, and Sujeong villages?on the 23rd, in collaboration with HiteJinro and the Korea Racing Authority Cheongdam Branch.

The district designates village halls and other facilities as cooling shelters to support residents of unauthorized shantytowns who are vulnerable to extreme heat. However, with record-breaking heatwaves and tropical nights continuing day after day, the burden of electricity costs for these privately operated cooling shelters has increased. Understanding these difficulties, companies have stepped forward to sponsor the shelters as part of their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives.

HiteJinro donated 2 million KRW through the Gangnam Welfare Foundation to cover electricity expenses. The Korea Racing Authority Cheongdam Branch provided 2,100 bottles of drinking water for visitors to the cooling shelters.

District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “We will continue to actively promote Gangnam-style ESG activities in collaboration with companies that provide practical support to residents.”
