Joined Immediately After Campaign Suspension to Deliver Trump Support Speech
Kennedy Family's Five Siblings Support "Harris"
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a member of the prestigious American political Kennedy family, officially declared his support for former President Donald Trump ahead of the U.S. presidential election this November, with President Trump stating that "this will have a significant impact on the election."
On the 23rd (local time), former President Trump held a joint campaign rally with Kennedy in Glendale, Arizona, a southern battleground state, saying, "He has been doing well in the polls, with support ranging from 10 to 16%."
He added, "Bobby (Robert's nickname) and I will fight to defeat the corrupt political establishment and return control of this country to the people," and urged, "I ask everyone who supported Bobby's campaign to join in building a coalition for this cause. We need your votes."
Independent candidate Kennedy suspended his campaign activities earlier that day to endorse former President Trump. He is the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy (JFK), who was assassinated in 1963, and the son of former Senator Robert F. Kennedy, who was shot and killed during the 1968 presidential primary. Originally, he submitted his candidacy for the Democratic presidential primary in April last year but shifted to an independent run six months later in October and continued his campaign.
At the joint rally, Kennedy Jr. asked, "Don't you want a president who will make America healthy again?" and "Don't you want a president who will take America out of war and rebuild the middle class?" He expressed his support for former President Trump citing issues such as safe food, chronic disease problems, and ending the influence of neoconservatives in foreign policy.
Meanwhile, other siblings of the Kennedy family criticized Robert F. Kennedy Jr., calling his decision "a betrayal of the values our father and family have upheld." According to major foreign media outlets, five of Kennedy Jr.'s siblings?Kathleen, Courtney, Kerry, Chris, and Rory Kennedy?issued a joint statement supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, saying, "We trust Harris and Wallace."
They continued, "Today’s decision by our brother Bobby (Kennedy Jr.'s nickname) to support Trump is a betrayal of the values our father and family cherished most," and criticized it as "a sad ending to a sad story."
It is reported that Kennedy Jr.'s family initially opposed his presidential bid. When Kennedy Jr. announced his candidacy in April last year, most of his family dismissed it as "meaningless" and expressed support for President Joe Biden, who is seeking re-election.
