Ko Young-wook Dissatisfied with YouTube Closure
"Just Because I'm a Convict..."
Former group Roolla singer Go Young-wook raised questions about fairness after his YouTube channel was shut down.
On the 23rd, Go Young-wook stated on his X (formerly Twitter), "It seems my YouTube channel was closed overnight." In fact, when clicking the link to the YouTube channel 'Go! Young-wook' that he opened on the 5th, the message "This page is not available" appears.
Go Young-wook said, "Just because I am an ex-convict, I did not upload harmful content, so can YouTube apply a non-existent rule only to one individual?" He added, "I have served all legal punishments, but some are allowed while others are not. Is this really fair?"
Previously, criticism arose following the news of Go Young-wook opening a YouTube channel. This is because he served a prison sentence for sexually assaulting and forcibly molesting minors. Online, comments such as "How shameless," "We shouldn't even give him attention," and "Does he have any conscience?" were widespread. YouTube appears to have shut down Go Young-wook’s channel in response to this negative public opinion.
Go Young-wook also posted another message, saying, "I am grateful to those who subscribed to my humble channel, visited, and showed interest," and "I apologize and feel regretful to those who sent me support emails." He continued, "Although it was a short time, thank you to everyone who sent overwhelming love, and I will not forget those feelings."
Meanwhile, Go Young-wook was arrested and indicted in January 2013 for sexually assaulting or forcibly molesting three minors on four occasions from July 2010 to December 2012. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and was released on July 10, 2015, after serving his full term.
Afterward, in November 2020, Go Young-wook opened an Instagram account and attempted to communicate with the public, but was permanently banned within a day due to regulations prohibiting the use of the platform by violent criminals.
