On the 23rd, Jeollanam-do announced that it held the launch ceremony of the ‘Direct Payment 100 Campaign’ to prevent reductions in public direct payments at the Jeonnam Agricultural Recognition Support Center in Illo-eup, Muan.

The event was attended by about 100 officials from Jeonnam Province and 22 cities and counties, the Jeonnam branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, the Jeonnam regional headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation, the Jeonnam headquarters of NongHyup Bank, the Korea Young Farmers Association Jeonnam Federation, and other agricultural organizations.

‘Direct Payment 100’ is a campaign jointly conducted by the public and private sectors to ensure that farmers receive 100% of their direct payments by not fraudulently receiving payments and by complying with 17 mandatory requirements such as maintaining the shape and function of farmland (failure to comply results in a 10% reduction in payments to the farm).

The event proceeded with explanations of the ‘Public Direct Payment Policy Direction’ and the ‘Direct Payment 100 Campaign Promotion Plan’ outlining the roles of farmers and agricultural institutions and organizations, followed by a performance pledging ‘100% compliance with the mandatory requirements.’

Attendees agreed on the necessity for farmers to comply with the 17 requirements to expand the public functions of agriculture and preserve a sustainable agricultural environment.

Bang Dohyeok, head of the Jeonnam branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, stated, “Through this campaign jointly conducted by the public and private sectors, we will actively cooperate with agricultural-related institutions and organizations to raise farmers’ awareness of the value of the public direct payment system and to encourage the practice of mandatory compliance.”

Kim Youngseok, director of the Food and Horticulture Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “Through the Direct Payment 100 Campaign, the first of its kind nationwide, we will do our best to ensure that all farmers fully comply with the requirements and receive 100% of their direct payments without any reductions.”

Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province proactively identified farms that failed to comply with the requirements last year and urged them to comply, achieving results that prevented a reduction of 7.9 billion won in direct payments and earning the Prime Minister’s Award in the government’s proactive administration evaluation.
