Navy Establishes Unit for Display of Reserve Ships and Conducts Realistic Training with Reactivated Vessels The Navy 8th Combat Training Group held a wartime unit establishment ceremony for the reserve ship Namwon at Jinhae Naval Base on the 23rd as part of the UFS exercise.

This training is significant in that, unlike previous training conducted at an educational level, both active-duty personnel for wartime conversion and short-term non-active reservists participated, and a unit activation ceremony was held for the reserve ship Namwonham (PCC). After the ceremony, Namwonham set sail and carried out realistic reactivation training at sea.

The reactivated Namwonham is a patrol ship that was commissioned in 1990, completed its mission of protecting territorial waters for 33 years, and was honorably decommissioned as of December 2023.

The training focused on: ▲Verification of wartime conversion capabilities for the activation and reactivation of reserve ships ▲Familiarization with crew mobilization and unit activation procedures for reactivated ships ▲Mastery of logistical loading procedures and establishment of mission execution systems for reactivated ships ▲Building integrated teamwork between active-duty and reserve personnel.

The unit activation ceremony for the reserve ship Namwonham, presided over by Brigadier General Park Taegyu, commander of the 8th Combat Training Group, was attended by over 150 people, including the flotilla commander and staff, maintenance depot officials, related unit personnel, active-duty members for wartime conversion, and reservists.

After the unit activation ceremony, the active-duty personnel for wartime conversion and reservists boarded the reactivated Namwonham and conducted training in loading supplies and materials, refueling, and ammunition loading at the pier.

After the onshore training, Namwonham departed Jinhae Base and conducted realistic maritime training at sea, including familiarization with entry and departure procedures, equipment operation checks, and coastal navigation teamwork exercises.

During the training, active-duty personnel for wartime conversion and reservists improved their practical wartime response capabilities by mastering their respective duties such as deck operations, steering, navigation, armament, and fire control.

Brigadier General Park Taegyu, commander of the Navy's 8th Combat Training Group, said, "It is significant that, as part of the UFS exercise, active-duty personnel for wartime conversion and non-active reservists participated to establish an integrated training model and completed realistic training. The 8th Combat Training Group will continue to do its best to strengthen not only the standing forces but also the combat power of reserve forces through realistic education and training."
