Following 300m and sharing elevator ride
Assault with "You are so strong" insults
Victim "Fought back with all strength fearing for life"
A man in his 20s was revealed to have assaulted a woman in her 40s with a baseball bat and verbally abused her in an apartment elevator.
JTBC's 'Incident Commander' aired an interview with the victim, Ms. A, on the 22nd regarding the assault. According to the report, Ms. A said that the perpetrator, Mr. B, followed her into the elevator while she was returning home, pressed the button for the 4th floor, and once the doors closed, struck her with a baseball bat.
Ms. A resisted with all her strength, fearing she might die. After the elevator arrived at the 4th floor and the doors opened, she immediately called the police on her mobile phone.
Ms. A stated, "When I grabbed the baseball bat and held on, he seemed frustrated and cursed at me saying, 'You're damn strong.' He also said he didn't care if I reported to the police or if he got caught." She added that even though he saw her making the call, instead of fleeing, he just stared blankly at her.
During the police investigation, Mr. B reportedly stated, "I committed the crime because Ms. A looked well off." Ms. A said, "I was crossing the pedestrian overpass in front of the apartment, shopping and heading home, when Mr. B followed me. I wasn't carrying a luxury bag or wearing anything special; my outfit was very ordinary."
She continued, "I never thought I would become a target. I can't believe this happened to me. Since this incident, I am scared to ride the elevator alone." Ms. A sustained a head injury from the assault and underwent suturing surgery.
Earlier, on the 19th at around 2:30 PM, Mr. B is accused of pulling out a baseball bat from his bag and swinging it at Ms. A inside an apartment elevator located in Paju City, Gyeonggi Province. It was confirmed that he had been wandering near Yadang Station and followed Ms. A for about 300 meters.
The police responded to Ms. A's report and apprehended Mr. B at the scene. They also seized Mr. B's mobile phone for forensic analysis to investigate whether the crime was premeditated.
