Nutrition Gochu H.O.T Festival to Be Held at Seoul Plaza for 3 Days Starting August 29
The '2024 Yeongyang Gochu H.O.T Festival' will be held at Seoul Plaza under the slogan "Come and Taste the K-Spicy Flavor of Yeongyang Gochu!" for three days starting on the 29th, marking the 16th edition of this urban-rural win-win agricultural and specialty products event.
First launched in 2007 as the first local government event with a single chili pepper theme at Seoul Plaza, the 'Yeongyang Gochu H.O.T Festival' has become a comprehensive marketing event that brings producers from "the smallest inland island" directly to consumers in "the largest central city of Korea." It is now one of the most anticipated festivals for Seoul citizens.
This year's festival aims to fully deliver the authentic K-spicy flavor of Yeongyang Gochu with a well-organized and substantial program to satisfy consumers. By focusing on integrated marketing of agricultural and specialty products, the event will minimize unnecessary programs and operate various exhibition and experience zones, creating a selective and focused event that feels as if Yeongyang-gun has been brought to the heart of Seoul.
At the sales booths, farmers will showcase the highest quality fresh Yeongyang chili peppers, chili powder, and a variety of agricultural specialties grown with sweat and dedication to urban consumers. More than 80 carefully selected farms, the Yeongyang Gochu Distribution Corporation, Yeongyang Nonghyup, Namyeongyang Nonghyup, and other outstanding chili powder processing companies will also participate. The main product, dried chili peppers (Hwageon), will continue to be sold with clearly displayed prices to further build consumer trust.
On the first day of the event, the special live broadcast of "KBS 6 o'clock My Hometown" featuring Yeongyang-gun will kick off the festival, enhancing the sense of presence. The event will offer a variety of attractions, including agricultural and specialty product exhibitions and sales, promotional exhibition halls, citizen participation experience events, and the Yeongyang Gochu Theme Park.
The opening ceremony will be kept to a minimum, and sharing events will be promoted to foster win-win cooperation, receiving enthusiastic responses from citizens. The event will also focus on connecting with consumers who have consistently trusted and awaited the festival for sixteen years.
At the exhibition and promotion booths, visitors can experience the night sky and fireflies at the Yeongyang Ecological Promotion Hall, see endangered wildlife contests and promotions at the Endangered Species Restoration Promotion Hall, taste "Eumsik Dimibang," the first Korean cookbook written in Hangul, at the Eumsik Dimibang Promotion Hall, and discover pure agricultural specialties from Yeongyang-gun at the Local Food Promotion Hall. The Yeongyang Gochu Theme Park, now a healing place at Seoul Plaza, will offer a preview of the autumn countryside and a relaxing space that highlights the region's unique characteristics.
In addition, the Yeongyang Gochu Ambassadors, who serve as promotional ambassadors for outstanding agricultural and specialty products, will actively participate in sales activities with farmers and present spectacular performances to enhance the prestige of the festival for urban visitors.
In particular, the Yeongyang-gun Federation of Young Farmers has ensured product safety for buyers by thoroughly managing quality at every stage, from cultivation to harvest, drying, and packaging, directly in Yeongyang-gun. This rigorous quality control will continue throughout the festival to build trust with consumers.
Prior to the event, promotional activities are planned for August 21 and 28 in areas such as Songpa-gu, Seoul, with active cooperation to further enhance the reputation of Yeongyang Gochu as a premium product.
County Governor Oh Dochang stated, "Despite the exhaustion caused by severe weather due to rapid climate change, we have prepared this year's event with great care for consumers who have continued to support Yeongyang-gun. We have worked hard to deliver the K-spicy flavor of the first-harvested Yeongyang Gochu, grown with sweat and passion under the sun, to consumers in the metropolitan area. We will do our best to ensure the successful hosting of the '2024 Yeongyang Gochu H.O.T Festival' and to further promote the premiumization and globalization of Yeongyang Gochu."
