Professors Kim I-bae, Park Sung-jong, Kim Kyung-won, and Kim Ye-won Appointed as '2024 Samjeong KPMG Professors'

"Supporting Research for the Advancement of Accounting and Enhancement of Accounting Transparency"

Kim I-bae, Professor of Accounting at Duksung Women’s University, Park Sung-jong, Professor of Law and Business Administration at Hankyong National University, Kim Kyung-won, Professor of Business Administration at the University of Seoul, and Kim Ye-won, Professor of Business Administration at Sejong University, have been selected as the scholars supported by the ‘2024 Samjong KPMG Professor’ program, which recognizes those who have contributed to the development of accounting and corporate governance research.


On the 23rd, Samjong KPMG (Chairman Kim Gyo-tae) announced that it held the appointment ceremony for the ‘2024 Samjong KPMG Professor’ at its headquarters in Gangnam Finance Center, Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu. The Korean Accounting Association selects the recipients according to its own regulations, and Samjong KPMG provides the appointed professors with a designated research fund for one year.

Professor Kim I-bae of Duksung Women’s University, who has made outstanding research and contributions in the fields of accounting systems and accounting transparency, promoting the establishment of principle-based accounting and strengthening the status of accounting, was awarded the ‘Distinguished Professor’ title. Since 2008, Professor Kim has been serving as a professor in the Department of Accounting at Duksung Women’s University and has held positions such as Director of Planning and Dean of the College of Global Convergence. She has contributed to the development of domestic accounting systems and transparency through roles including member of the Financial Services Commission’s Financial Development Deliberation Committee, chair of the Capital Market Subcommittee, member of the Accounting System Deliberation Committee, self-evaluation committee member, member of the Accounting Standards Advisory Committee of the Korea Accounting Standards Board, advisory committee member of KSSB (Korea Sustainability Standards Board), member of the ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Management Committee of the National Pension Service (NPS), and member of the Governance Improvement Advisory Committee.


Professor Park Sung-jong of Hankyong National University’s Department of Law and Business Administration was selected as the ‘ACI (Audit Committee Support Center) Professor,’ awarded to professors with excellent research achievements related to improving corporate governance and strengthening the role of audit committees, and who are expected to contribute to the development of the field. Since 2022, Professor Park has been serving as a professor at Hankyong National University’s Department of Law and Business Administration. He has served as a member of the IFRS Inquiry Response Joint Meeting of the Accounting Standards Board and as an accounting advisory professor at the Financial Supervisory Service’s Accounting Supervision Bureau. Currently, he serves as chair of the Insurance Accounting Committee of the Korean Accounting Association, outside director of L&C Bio, and advisory committee member for the SK Discovery KSSB (ESG) disclosure system.


The ‘Scholarship Professor’ award, given to promising young scholars who have published outstanding papers related to accounting, was awarded to Professor Kim Kyung-won of the University of Seoul’s College of Business Administration and Professor Kim Ye-won of Sejong University’s Department of Business Administration. Professor Kim Kyung-won was appointed assistant professor at the University of Seoul’s College of Business Administration this year after serving as an assistant professor at IE University in Spain. He was recognized for his research capabilities by being selected for the National Research Foundation’s Global Doctoral Fellowship. Professor Kim Ye-won gained practical experience at Samjong KPMG’s Audit Headquarters and received the Best Paper Award in Accounting, Taxation, and Auditing Research from the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as the Excellent Paper Award at the Asian Accounting Association International Conference hosted by the Korean Accounting Association. She is conducting research on topics such as ‘Accounting Systems, Accounting Transparency, and Corporate Investment Decision-Making.’


Kim Gyo-tae, Chairman of Samjong KPMG, stated, “The specialized research of scholars greatly contributes to the establishment of principle-based accounting and the enhancement of accounting transparency,” and added, “We will continue to support insightful research by scholars for the healthy growth of the capital market through the ‘Samjong KPMG Professor’ program.”
