Position expected to grow as the head of the Shinmyeong faction
On the 23rd, Kim Min-seok, the senior supreme council member who presided over the Democratic Party of Korea's supreme council meeting, directly criticized Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, saying, "Was the third-party recommendation (Chae Sang-byeong) special prosecutor a campaign promise or an empty pledge?" and asked, "Is not keeping the number one campaign promise as party leader the new politics?"
At the party's supreme council meeting that morning, Kim said, "Han said that the investigation of First Lady Kim Geon-hee did not meet the public's expectations, but when it was said that Kim Geon-hee's no indictment was consistent with facts and law, Han was called a flashy Yoon Seok-yeol avatar," adding, "The leaders' meeting is a place to solve issues that the public wants, not a tool to resolve Han Dong-hoon's difficult position within the party."
Meanwhile, Kim Min-seok publicly revealed the strengthened position of the Shinmyeong (Shin Yi-jae-myeong) faction within the party while presiding over the meeting that day. Earlier, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, entered self-quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19, and Park Chan-dae, the floor leader, was also on leave until that day for health management.
Kim Min-seok emerged as the so-called leader of the Shinmyeong faction by serving as Lee's running mate in this party convention. During the 22nd general election, he served as the situation room chief, announcing the party's major policies and handling election affairs, gaining Lee's trust. Political circles analyze that if Lee focuses on expanding the centrist base in the second-term system, Kim Min-seok and the other supreme council members will concentrate their efforts on strengthening the offensive against the opposition.
