Despite the nationwide trend of resident doctors leaving and emergency medicine specialists resigning, the emergency rooms of four general hospitals in Cheonan, Chungnam are operating normally.
According to Cheonan City on the 23rd, a review of the emergency room operations at four general hospitals in Cheonan?Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital, Dankook University Hospital, Cheonan Medical Center, and Chungmu Hospital?showed that all are operating 24 hours a day.
Soonchunhyang University Hospital, which recently suffered a crisis due to the resignation of emergency medicine specialists last month, is currently treating emergency patients with the support of the hospital director, special executive director, chief of medical affairs, and other faculty specialists, as well as dispatched specialists from three other Soonchunhyang University Hospitals in Seoul, Bucheon, and Gumi.
The regional emergency center at Dankook University Hospital, which operates a doctor helicopter, is providing uninterrupted care for critical and emergency patients with emergency medicine specialists and specialists from other departments within the hospital.
The emergency rooms at Cheonan Medical Center and Cheonan Chungmu Hospital are also operating normally 24 hours a day.
Pediatric emergency care for severe cases is being handled by the regional emergency medical centers at Soonchunhyang University and Dankook University Hospitals, while mild pediatric cases are covered by two "Moonlight Children's Hospitals": Kim Jongin Pediatrics Clinic and Dujeong Ijin Hospital.
Mayor Park Sangdon stated, "Cheonan City is maintaining 24-hour emergency room operations through organic cooperation with the four general hospitals," and added, "However, to prevent overcrowding in the emergency rooms, we ask that patients with mild symptoms visit general hospitals or clinics instead of university hospitals so that the emergency medical system can be maintained."
