Purpose of Alleviating Parking Shortage Around Giheung Campus Construction Site
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it will create two public parking lots with a total of 245 spaces in the Seonong-dong area of Giheung-gu in collaboration with Samsung Electronics.
This public parking lot project aims to alleviate parking difficulties in the surrounding area due to the expansion construction of the Future Research Complex within Samsung Electronics' Giheung Campus. Since an average of about 6,000 construction workers are deployed daily at the construction site, illegal parking vehicles have increased in nearby residential and commercial areas, causing inconvenience to residents.

The parking lots will be built on 3,847㎡ in the 427 area of Nongseo-dong and 1,329㎡ in the 744 area of Seocheon-dong, with parking capacities of 200 and 45 spaces, respectively. Among these, the Nongseo-dong site is already operating a public parking lot with 263 spaces on land leased free of charge from the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). The city will expand the site area through a revised contract with LH and increase the parking lot capacity.
The city will secure the land, and Samsung Electronics will cover the construction costs as well as expenses for installing auxiliary facilities such as guide signs and fences. Both parties plan to sign a written agreement within this month and complete the parking lot construction by October.
A city official stated, "We decided to create public parking lots as a fundamental solution to alleviate citizen inconvenience," adding, "We will proceed with administrative procedures smoothly with related organizations to complete the parking lots as soon as possible."
