SBS 'Youngjae Balguldan' Alum Jeong Yeomin's Update
Recently Discharged... New Dreams at Model Academy
Jeong's Mother Much Healthier Than Before
The recent update on Jeong Yeomin, the 'literary prodigy' who appeared on SBS's 'Youngjae Discovery Team' in 2016, has been shared. On the 23rd, multiple online communities circulated a video titled 'Meeting Jeong Yeomin, the literary prodigy who became an adult, after 8 years,' which was uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘Wowhan Video’ on the 18th.
At that time, Jeong was in the 6th grade of elementary school and gained recognition as a 'literary prodigy' by winning the grand prize at a national writing contest with a poem titled 'What is the temperature inside the heart?' overcoming a competition rate of 8000:1. Living in the countryside with her family, she expressed her sorrow and immense love for her mother, who was diagnosed with terminal thymic cancer, through her poems and prose, touching viewers as a 'poet prodigy who writes for her mother.'
In the recent video, after 8 years, Jeong, now 22 years old, had grown into a young man over 188 cm tall. Jeong said, "I was discharged from the military this year," and added, "There were many comments asking for an update. I heard from my parents that tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ once contacted me. When I heard that, I thought, 'Why me?' since it’s a program I usually enjoy watching, so it was surprising."
Jeong is currently pursuing his dream of becoming a model and has moved alone to Seoul, attending an academy. He said, "I’m keeping writing as a hobby for now," and added, "I wanted to be a model since high school, so after discharge, I decided to seriously pursue it. It’s harder than I thought. I’m at the stage of taking my first steps." Jeong’s father said, "Please don’t think of Yeomin only as a poet, but recognize and support him as someone trying new challenges and exploring various things."
The update on Jeong’s mother, which sparked the most curiosity, was also shared. Jeong said, "She used to lose a lot of weight, but now she has gained about 5 kg and seems much healthier than before." Jeong’s mother said, "I have overcome many critical moments. My weight dropped to 38 kg, and I couldn’t get up after sitting down. I’m not undergoing any standard treatments at the hospital. I don’t know how much time I have left, but I exercise and manage my diet every day, doing my best."
