Providing a Daily Retreat for Residents Amid the Heat with the Theme 'Starlight Vacation' at Byeolbitnaericheon Waterfront Stage Area
'Byeolsari Flea Market' Featuring Over 70 Sellers with Various Goods and One-Day Classes, Alongside Diverse Performances and Experience Events in the 'Relay Event'
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) has richly decorated Byeolbitnaerimcheon with the theme of 'Starlight Vacation,' featuring the Byeolsari Flea Market and relay events to refresh residents tired from the heat.
The Byeolbitsinsari Commercial District Renaissance Project is a five-year initiative from 2020 to 2025 with a budget of 8 billion KRW aimed at revitalizing the commercial area around Sillim Station. It was the first project in Seoul to be selected in a competition by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
The 'Byeolsari Flea Market' is part of this project and is being held for the third time this year, establishing itself as a representative local event.
The event will take place over about two weeks from the 29th to September 8th (every Thursday to Sunday from 4 PM to 10 PM), centered around the Byeolbitnaerimcheon waterfront stage, spanning the section from Sillim Bridge to Bongnim Bridge, and the newly completed Byeolbitnaerimcheon waterfront terrace space.
About 70 sellers will participate in the flea market, showcasing charming products from young small business owners, goods from social economy enterprises, and various festival foods. In particular, one-day classes are prepared so that residents can enjoy the festival with all their senses.
Additionally, the 'Relay Event' ensures that residents do not miss out on visual entertainment.
Now in its fourth year, the 'Relay Event' features performances anyone can enjoy, including singing and instrument playing, musicals, magic shows, and dance.
The 'Relay Event' started its first performance on the 3rd and will be held every Friday and Saturday, with about 100 performances over four months until November 9th.
Every Saturday, various experiential events such as 'Pot Making' and 'Caricature Drawing,' open to all residents, are also prepared.
The district expects this event to provide a small respite in daily life for residents exhausted by the hot summer and long tropical nights, and to revitalize the local commercial area by increasing the influx of visitors.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “As this is the final year of the 'Byeolbitsinsari Commercial District Renaissance Project,' we will successfully conclude the project and achieve a fruitful outcome. This year, the 'Starlight Walk (Lighting Festival)' will be held in November at Byeolbitnaerimcheon, and we will continue to create a commercial district filled with attractions and entertainment every year, making it a place where both merchants and customers are satisfied.”
