Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) is promoting a green remodeling project targeting four aging public daycare centers to create a pleasant childcare environment.

Green remodeling aims to improve the insulation and equipment performance of public buildings that are over 10 years old since completion, with the goal of reducing heating and cooling costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

The district secured a budget of 480 million KRW through a public contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and will invest a total of 640 million KRW to carry out facility improvement works at four locations: Gongdeok Daycare Center (located in Gongdeok-dong), Dohwa Daycare Center (located in Dohwa-dong), Sinsu Daycare Center (located in Sinsu-dong), and World Cup Daycare Center (located in Sangam-dong).

The main construction works include ▲ reinforcement of insulation materials on interior and exterior walls ▲ replacement of high-performance windows ▲ installation of high-efficiency heating and cooling systems and heat recovery ventilation systems, with completion targeted for December this year.

In particular, the district plans to thoroughly check the necessary improvements and inconveniences for each daycare center through on-site surveys, and will make every effort to improve the childcare environment so that infants and young children can live in a safe and comfortable environment.

In 2021 and 2022, the district also invested a total of 673 million KRW to complete work on high-performance windows and insulation, high-efficiency heating and cooling devices, and boilers at a total of 14 public daycare centers, seven each year.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We expect the childcare environment to be greatly improved once the green remodeling construction is completed,” adding, “We will do our best to create a city that is good for raising children so that the future generation of children can grow up in a pleasant environment.”
