20s Man Arrested for Beating Neighbor to Death at Apartment Smoking Area: "Risk of Escape"

A man in his 20s who fatally assaulted a neighbor in his 70s at an apartment smoking area has been arrested.

On the 22nd, Judge Lim Jeong-yeop of the Seoul Northern District Court, who is in charge of warrants, held a pre-arrest detention hearing for the man in his 20s, identified as A, who is charged with murder, and issued an arrest warrant citing "risk of flight."

A is accused of assaulting a man in his 70s, B, who lived in the same apartment, at a smoking area in an apartment complex in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, around 7:50 p.m. on the 20th.

At the time, B lost consciousness and collapsed after the assault and was transported to a hospital but died within an hour. Initially, the police arrested A on charges of injury, but after B's death, the charges were upgraded to murder.
