On the 12th of next month at the National Theater Haerum Theater
The National Gugak Orchestra will perform the high-quality Gugak brunch concert "Noon Concert" on September 12 at 11 a.m. at the National Theater's Haeoreum Theater.
Started in 2009, "Noon Concert" is a representative regular performance of the National Theater, continuously loved for its easy and friendly commentary and diverse programs. Announcer Lee Geum-hee will provide the commentary, helping the audience's understanding with her uniquely soft and comfortable presentation. The conductor will be Choi Dong-ho, deputy conductor of the National Gugak Orchestra.
The first piece performed that day will be composer Kang Sang-gu's Gugak orchestral work "Cheonggyecheon." "Cheonggyecheon" is inspired by the play scene of the Sadangpa troupe depicted in Kim Hong-do's "Folk Paintings Eight-Panel Folding Screen (Four Seasons Folk Paintings Screen)" specifically the "Street Vendor" panel. It expresses the various aspects of Joseon-era people who made Cheonggyecheon their living space, as well as the everyday lives of ordinary people who visit Cheonggyecheon today as a place of rest, through a harmony of traditional and contemporary music.
On the following "Noon Collaboration" stage, a passionate double collaboration by this year's National Gugak Orchestra intern members will be presented. Haegum player Ha Ye-won and Daeajaeng player Moon Yeon-joo will perform "Motif, One Person's Passionate Love," composed by Chae Ji-hye and commissioned for its premiere at last November's "Noon Concert." The piece attaches the suffix "tive," which expresses feeling or nature, to the Chinese character "母 (mother)," portraying instinctive love for a child in three movements. The agility and delicacy of the haegum contrast with the weightiness and solemnity of the daeajaeng.
The newly introduced "Noon Request" segment this season performs audience-requested songs arranged for Gugak orchestra. In May, the National Gugak Orchestra collected "Stories of the Month" and song requests from the audience and held an event where selected story submitters received tickets to the corresponding performance. This month, the orchestra will perform a Gugak orchestral arrangement of singer Kim Dong-ryul's "Thank You" along with the requester's story.
The "Noon Star" stage, featuring stars from various fields such as popular music, pansori, and musicals, will include singer Kim Hyung-jung. Debuted in 1993, Kim Hyung-jung will perform his representative songs "I Guess So," "She Smiles," and "Good Person" together with the National Gugak Orchestra. Among these, "I Guess So," released in 2003, recently gained attention as it was featured in the popular drama "Carrying Seon-jae and Running Away."
In "Noon Choice," where the conductor recommends Gugak orchestral pieces, Son Da-hye's composition "One Song, National Anthem" will be performed. This work reconfigures three versions of the national anthem from Korea's modern and contemporary history, reflecting on the meaning of the Republic of Korea, preserved through the noble sacrifices of those who endured the turbulent modern era.
Delicious snacks and beverages made by social enterprises will be provided to the audience attending the performance.
