New Taycan Domestic Launch Event on the 22nd
"South Korea's battery safety standards are very high. We have closely collaborated with LG Energy Solution, the supplier of the new Taycan battery, to establish a battery safety system."
On the 22nd, Holger Geyermann, CEO of Porsche Korea (pictured), said this during a press meeting at the new Taycan launch event held at the Grand Hyatt in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. He stated, "Securing customer trust is our top priority, and we have been considering various measures," adding, "The disclosure of battery manufacturers, promoted jointly by the industry and authorities, is essential for ensuring transparency."
Porsche equipped the new Taycan, a facelift model returning after four years, with LG Energy Solution batteries produced at their factory in Poland. CEO Geyermann said, "We installed a Battery Management System (BMS) with various battery safety features," and added, "To meet South Korea's high safety standards, we conducted numerous tests together with LG Energy Solution."
On this day, Porsche Korea unveiled the new Taycan and the Korea-exclusive Taycan Turbo K-Edition in the domestic market. As of last year, South Korea ranked fifth worldwide in Taycan sales, with 1,805 units sold.
CEO Geyermann noted, "Korean consumers tend to prefer classic and timeless designs," and added, "They also show high interest not only in aesthetic design but also in brand heritage and vehicle driving performance."
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Porsche Korea introduced the limited edition model ‘Taycan Turbo K-Edition’ for Korea. Porsche selects two countries annually to release country-specific limited editions. This vehicle features five colors inspired by Korean nature, including pine trees, basalt, the sea, and gonryongpo (traditional Korean dragon robe).
The car emphasizes its uniqueness by engraving the national seal emblem and the word ‘Taycan’ in Hangul on the graphic insignia. Additionally, the ‘Korean Skyline Graphic’ design, which depicts Korean landmarks and the Baekdudaegan mountain range, is applied throughout the interior, including the front passenger seat, rear spoiler, and driver’s key case. This model is produced in 10 units per color, with a total of 50 units exclusively sold in Korea.
The new Taycan significantly improved acceleration compared to the previous model. The Taycan Turbo S, a trim optimized for driving performance, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds. The system’s maximum output is 952 horsepower (including overboost), with a maximum torque of 113.2 kg·m.
Depending on the model, the driving range has increased by up to 65% compared to the previous generation, reaching a maximum of 500 km (based on the Performance Battery Plus model). Not only has the driving range been extended, but the charging speed has also been increased to a maximum of 320 kW. The time required to charge from 10% to 80% capacity has been reduced to 18 minutes.
Porsche equipped the Taycan with a new ‘Active Ride Suspension’ that improves both driving dynamics and comfort. It enhances dynamic braking performance, provides a smooth ride, absorbs road shocks, and increases quietness. The capacity of regenerative braking, which occurs when slowing down at high speeds, has increased by more than 30%, from the previous 290 kW to a maximum of 400 kW. An increased regenerative braking capacity helps extend the overall driving range.
Porsche Korea will launch a total of five versions of the new Taycan, including the ‘Turbo K-Edition.’ Prices start at 129.9 million KRW for the base Taycan model, with the highest-performance Taycan Turbo S starting at 247.4 million KRW. The Taycan K-Turbo Edition for Korea starts at 323 million KRW.
