Yoon's Approval Rating Drops 2%p to 27%... "Job Performance Expectations: Lee 49% vs Han 41%" [PollPoll News]

NBS Regular Survey
President Yoon's Approval Rating Declines for 2 Consecutive Weeks

President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration showed a downward trend. Regarding the newly formed leaders of the ruling and opposition parties, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was found to have higher expectations than Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party.

According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from the 19th to the 21st of this month by Embrain Public, K-Stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research, which surveyed 1,000 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide via mobile phone interviews, President Yoon's approval rating was 27%. This represents a 2 percentage point decline compared to the survey conducted two weeks ago. Negative evaluations rose by 3 percentage points to 63%.

After the ruling party's defeat in the general election, President Yoon's approval rating dropped from the 30% range to the 20% range. In the fourth week of July's NBS survey, it reached 30%, showing potential for recovery. However, it then declined to 29% (second week of August) and 27% (this survey).

Regarding the direction of national governance, the percentage of respondents who believed the country was heading in the right direction fell by 3 percentage points from 33% to 30%.

In terms of party support, the People Power Party received 31%, the Democratic Party 29%, the National Innovation Party 9%, and the Reform Party 2%. While the People Power Party's support decreased by 1 percentage point compared to two weeks ago, the Democratic Party's support increased by 5 percentage points.

This time, expectations for the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties were also surveyed. Regarding the question of whether they are expected to perform their duties well, 49% of respondents said they expected Lee to perform well, while 41% said he would not. For Han, 40% expected him to perform well, and 41% expected he would not.

Additionally, there was a public opinion survey on President Yoon's use of veto power. Negative opinions were predominant. 59% viewed it as an abuse of power that unjustifiably restricts the functions of the National Assembly. Only 30% saw it as a legitimate use of authority to block unilateral legislation by the opposition party.

However, public opinion was divided on the opposition party's impeachment efforts. Regarding the Democratic Party's impeachment motions against prosecutors and key government officials, 45% responded that it was a legitimate use of authority by the opposition against unqualified personnel, while 42% said it was an abuse of power that unjustifiably restricts government functions.
